Everyday shopping · Queenstown, Otago & Fiordland
The big shop is not in town: it is in Frankton
The town centre is for wandering. The real shopping lives on Grant Road and Hawthorne Drive, in Frankton, ten minutes away by car or bus. And if you are staying in Wānaka, your equivalent is Three Parks.
FiveMile: the weekly shop and things for the house
The Grant Road centre where the big shop lives. A Woolworths supermarket, and the big stores: The Warehouse, Briscoes, Bed Bath & Beyond and Look Sharp. Open seven days from 9:00 to 17:30, some shops later, with about 800 parking spaces and several bus lines.
Queenstown Central: this is where you buy clothes
An open-air centre right next to FiveMile on the same Grant Road, and the most direct place in the district to get dressed. There is a Kmart, and the New Zealand fashion and footwear brands: Barkers, Hallensteins, Glassons, Max and Merchant 1948.
Remarkables Park: the supermarket that closes latest
On Hawthorne Drive. Its New World opens 7:30 to 22:00 every day, the widest hours in the district, next to a Unichem pharmacy and the home and furniture block: Harvey Norman, BedsRus and Nood. The rest of the centre opens 9:00 to 17:30.
The Landing: neighbourhood trades, not chains
A cluster of small premises opposite the New World, with a courtyard and gardens. About twenty neighbourhood businesses: the Odelay cafe, the Neat Meat butchery, the Gents barbershop. It is where you go for the everyday, not the big shop.
Three Parks: Frankton for whoever is staying in Wānaka
Wānaka's shopping area, with about 31 businesses already open and growing. For anyone staying there it is what FiveMile and Remarkables Park are to Frankton: the shopping and the services, together and with parking.
